The resolution on human rights issues, adopted on Thursday, also condemned the illegal abduction of Levan Dotiashvili by the Russian occupying forces in the same incident and called for a “thorough investigation” into the matter.
Supported by 495 votes, the motion “strongly” condemned the illegal occupation of Georgia's Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions by Russia.
In her reaction to the adoption of the resolution, the Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said “once again, Europe shows unwavering support for Georgia”.
In his turn, Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia's Ambassador to the European Union, said he was “grateful” for the European Parliament’s support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ginturi was killed by the Russian-controlled occupation forces in a territory adjacent to the occupied Tskhinvali region. Dotiashvili, who was illegally arrested, was released on November 10.
