Georgian Education Minister, US Ambassador discuss strengthening ties between universities

Strengthening cooperation between Georgian and American universities for increasing dual international degrees of education programmes in Georgia was discussed in a meeting on Monday between Robin Dunnigan, the Ambassador of the United States to Georgia, and Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Georgian Education Minister.
The Ministry cited Amilakhvari as saying entry of American universities into Georgia would be “particularly important” for the quality of international education programmes in the country, with the parties agreeing a visit of representatives of the Georgian Ministry to the US in 2024.

Amilakhvari also discussed ongoing projects “at all levels of education” that are being implemented in cooperation with the US Embassy and the United States Agency for International Development.
The officials also noted the projects implemented in partnership was “fully consistent with priorities and ongoing reforms” of the Ministry.
At the end of the meeting, Dunnigan “positively assessed” ongoing reforms at the Ministry and promised “full support” to Amilakhvari in the implementation of future joint projects.
The United States Agency for International Development and the Georgian Education Ministry have launched a $14 million US Government-funded programme to strengthen Georgia’s education sector and increase education quality and equality in schools, the Agency said on Thursday.
Over 2,000 primary schools and 23,000 teachers across Georgia, and their students by extension, will benefit from a USAID Basic Education programme launching with the start of the new academic year in the country.
The USAID Basic Education Program focused on interactive learning kicked off in Georgia today. The program aims to help students develop skills in reading, mathematics, critical thinking and problem-solving, establishing the foundation for lifelong success.
The United States government's Fulbright Student Program in Georgia is set to expand after the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and the US Ambassador in Georgia signed a project to benefit local universities' teaching of English on Tuesday.
