Preparations for the coming winter tourist season in Georgia’s mountain resort of Gudauri were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the country’s Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and representatives of public agencies and businesses.
The Ministry of Economy said Davitashvili briefed the participants on the Government’s planned “large-scale” infrastructural works for further development of the location, including two new ropeway complexes being built by the Austrian-Swiss company Doppelmayr Garaventa Group.
He noted the resort was set to host the upcoming FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup series for the first time in February, and said the event would “positively reflect” the recognition of the resort on an international scale.
Davitashvili also told the meeting Gudauri was an “important mountain resort”, with the Government having a “vision of its development for other seasons as well”.
Irakli Burchuladze, the Director of the Georgian Mountain Trails Agency, presented details on the ongoing and implemented works in the location for the coming season, including a new cable car complex and ski tracks, rehabilitated and renewed special equipment, and added the resort would be ready to host international competitions.
He said holding “high-ranking” competitions in the location was “very important” both for the development of Gudauri as a mountain resort and sports arena, as well as for the promotion of the country.
