The Georgian foreign office on Saturday said the leaders of the member states of the European Union adopted a document reaffirming their support to Georgia on its European path in the European Council meeting on October 26-27.
In the final conclusion approved at the meeting in Brussels, the EU leaders noted the bloc “will continue to work closely with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, and support their reform efforts on their European paths”.
According to the document, Georgia is supported in the context of the bloc’s enlargement policy, together with other Associated Trio counties that have already obtained the EU membership candidate status last year, the foreign office emphasised.
Georgia was granted a European perspective last year and received 12 priorities for fulfilment from the EU for obtaining membership status.
The European Commission will assess Georgia’s progress in implementing conditions in November and the decision on the candidate status will be announced at the end of the year.
