Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, on Friday noted the threat of use of nuclear weapons in the wider region and told MPs "smart" and "pragmatic" policy was key against the danger.

The existing challenges do not exclude use of nuclear weapons. I do not mean our country, I mean the surrounding region. We must be smart, conduct a moderate, pragmatic policy, both inside and outside the country”, the official said.

He told MPs a "special action plan" had been created under the leadership of the Government and with participation of related agencies to provide the latter with guidelines for cases of nuclear danger.

Liluashvili also said the Ministry of Health had plans on how to provide treatment through an emergency aid scheme and distribute support in such scenarios.
