German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer on Wednesday commented on Tbilisi's European Union integration prospects and said that “speed and quality” of rapprochement with the bloc was in the hands of the states aspiring for its membership.
He noted the European Commission was expected to publish its final report on Georgia’s implementation of candidacy conditions in November, which would be used as a “basic document” by the European Council in December to decide on Georgia’s status.
My wish is that we come to a positive decision as calmly as possible. But we always say that the speed and quality of rapprochement with the EU is in the hands of the countries that are approaching us. So, this work should be done by Georgia. We are ready to help. I hope that the answer will be positive", said the diplomat.
Georgia officially applied for the bloc’s membership in March 2022, shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
