The Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia on Wednesday said authorities were working to prepare a national guide for transition to the circular economy - a model of production and consumption which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Solomon Pavliashvili, who attended the first plenary session held for the purpose of developing the national guide, said the Government had been taking “important” steps for the development of the circular economy “over the recent years”.

Pavliashvili said the Assessment of the Circularity Level of the Georgian Economy had been developed with the support of the Swedish Government, outlining the target indicators recommended for the national policy for the circular economy and goals of circularity, sectoral opportunities, sectoral policy options and recommendations.

This gives us the basis to move to the next stage, which includes the preparation of the circular economy national guide. The guide would define the path that Georgia should follow toward circular transformation”, he said.

The guide for the transition will be developed by an expert team of the Union of Nature Researchers of Georgia, in coordination with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Inter-agency Coordination Council.
