Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze on Tuesday highlighted the “close and continuous” cooperation with international partners, especially with the main strategic partner - the United States, adding the partnership with the US “is increasing and strengthening each year”.
Speaking at the Parliament as part of his turn to address MPs in the Minister's Hour format, Burchuladze said the partnership with the US was based on “mutual trust and common values” and pointed out the practical and financial support provided by the country to strengthen the capabilities of the Georgian Defence Forces.
He also reviewed the planned projects with the US and said Georgia had received about $68 million in aid from the US, adding the country would receive “similar assistance” this year as well.
With the support of the US, the modernisation of the weapons and equipment of the special operations forces and the National Guard is underway. Cooperation in the development of cyber defence capabilities is actively continuing, which is very important considering modern challenges”, Burchuladze stressed.
The growing trend of grant funding in Georgia was also emphasised by the Minister, who said that the country had received “unprecedented” assistance from partner countries over the last few years.
