Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday discussed his country’s agenda for accession into the European Union with Peter Burke, the Minister of State for European Affairs of Ireland as part of his visit to the country.
The Georgian official briefed Irish officials of his Government's efforts to meet the priorities outlined by the bloc last year for granting Tbilisi its membership candidate status, and claimed they were “firmly pursuing” the reform agenda to receive the status later this year, the Georgian foreign office said.

The parties noted the importance of the support of EU member states, including Ireland, in Georgia’s integration process, with Burke reaffirming his Government's support for the process.
The discussion also highlighted the “strong and dynamic partnership” between Georgia and the EU and described Tbilisi as a “committed ally” of the bloc, while also discussing security challenges sparked by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and the EU’s role in ensuring peace and security in the South Caucasus region, the press office added.
The officials also reviewed activities of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia.
