Renovation of Defence Forces aviation park “actively underway”

The renovation, rehabilitation and modernisation of the aviation park of the Georgian Defence Forces are “actively underway”, with an upgraded military aircraft Su-25 added to the aviation, the Defence Ministry said on Saturday.

As a result of joint efforts of the State Military Scientific-Technical Center Delta and the Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing, seven units of the Su-25 aircraft have already been renovated, the Ministry noted, adding the repair of three training jets L-39 Albatros was also underway.
The body said pilots and technical staff were also undergoing training according to their qualifications and specialities.

Today Georgia is marking the 30th anniversary of the country’s air force, celebrating the day in 1992 when Izani Tsertsvadze and Valeri Nakopia became the first pilots in the independent country to take off for a flight in two Su-25 ground attack aircraft and signalled the founding of the branch of its defence forces.
