A Georgian delegation chaired by Nikoloz Samkharadze, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the country’s Parliament, on Friday discussed prospects of economic, trade, cultural and educational cooperation with representatives of legislative bodies of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The meetings came following the ASEAN’s 44th Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday, the Parliament of Georgia said, adding meetings had been held with the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of the Philippines, chairs of the foreign affairs committees of the Parliaments of Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam, and heads of parliamentary delegations of Cambodia and Singapore.
The first bilateral meeting in the Georgian Parliament’s history with the Speaker of the Parliament of Timor-Leste was also held, the press office added.
The Georgian delegation’s appearance in Jakarta marked the first AIPA Assembly with the country’s engagement after Tbilisi obtained an observer status several months ago.
