Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday said the “selfless work” of the employees of the State Security Service for the protection of the national interests of the country was “inestimable”.
In his speech at an event dedicated to the eighth anniversary of the establishment of the Service, Papuashvili noted the state body’s 2022 report presented to the country’s legislative body “clearly” showed the “great work” carried out by the agency.
The peaceful and safe environment” in Georgia has been “the main result and indicator” of the Service’s “successful” activities, he highlighted and added it was “the most important” foundation for the country’s economic growth and further involvement in new international projects.
Papuashvili also cited the Middle Corridor project, which would increase the role and responsibility of the Service both in regional and international peace strengthening.

The state body’s “immeasurable contribution” to the prevention and response mechanism of incidents in the country’s occupied territories and along the occupation line was stressed by the official, who also praised the Service for its anti-terrorism efforts.
The event was addressed by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the Service, with the latter awarding the employees of the body.
The employees of the SSS, who died in the line of duty, were honoured with a moment of silence at the event.
