Main areas of cooperation between Georgia and South Africa were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Roland Beridze, the country’s newly appointed Ambassador to the country.
Garibashvili congratulated Beridze on his new position and wished him success in his diplomatic mission, the Government administration said.
Beridze previously worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was Georgia’s Ambassador to Kuwait.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili will be in Portugal on a working visit from Thursday to Friday to hold “high-level” meetings with officials of the country’s Government.
Gert Jan Koopman, the head of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission, on Wednesday said the Commission welcomed the Georgian Government’s “keen interest” in making “further progress” on the bloc’s conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status later this year.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday claimed the idea of a “second front” in the country amid the ongoing war in Ukraine was coming from the Ukrainian high ranking officials who had said that “their interest was to open a second front in Georgia and Moldova” amid the war in their country.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Portuguese counterpart João Cravinho on Thursday discussed bilateral cooperation, security challenges in Georgia and the wider world and Tbilisi’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
A Government meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday discussed matters including transferring state-owned accommodation housing internally displaced families to their formal ownership.
