Simplified visa-free travel between Georgia, Armenia comes into force today

A deal between Georgia and Armenia came into force today, allowing their nationals to cross the border using biometric identification cards.
The agreement was signed by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan on January 12 in Yerevan, which replaced the agreement on visa-free movement of citizens of Armenia and Georgia through their territories concluded on May 19, 1993.

Georgian and Armenian prime ministers on Thursday signed an agreement to further simplify the existing visa-free travel between the countries, making it possible for their nationals to cross the border using biometric identification cards.
Bilateral cooperation agenda between Georgia and Armenia in trade, economy, transit and transport was discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan.
Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Thursday highlighted the “particularly active” economic ties with Armenia over the recent years, in a comment coming during the ongoing visit of a Governmental delegation to Yerevan.
An agreement to further simplify the existing visa-free travel between Georgia and Armenia, which was signed today by the countries’ prime ministers Irakli Garibashvili and Nikol Pashinyan, will make it possible for their nationals to cross the border using identification cards and will further contribute to the deepening of people-to-people relations, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said on Thursday.
