Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Thursday highlighted the “particularly active” economic ties with Armenia over the recent years, in a comment coming during the ongoing visit of a Governmental delegation to Yerevan.

The Ministry cited Davitashvili on noting the “significantly increased” trade turnover between the countries, with a 70 percent rise in the trend over the first 11 months of last year pushing the figure over the $1 billion mark.

Davitashvili also highlighted the "significant dynamics" in transport, logistics and shipments, and noted the recovery of tourism between the two states since the Covid pandemic.

We hosted about 700,000 visitors from Armenia to Georgia in 2022. In general, the tourist flow is increasing, and Armenia ranks third among the tourist markets of Georgia", he said.

The Minister added the Intergovernmental Economic Commission of the two countries, which held its 12th meeting in the Armenian capital today, had also discussed energy cooperation.

"[There is] potential and opportunities for both countries to produce electricity, to promote each other's energy independence and security, and also to use the new opportunities that Georgia has in connection with Europe in terms of electricity transit and trade", the official said.
