Twelve stations of the metro system in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi will be renovated between 2023-2029 with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at today’s Government meeting.
Kaladze said €50.6 million had already been allocated for the project in the form of a loan, with €5 million coming in the form of a grant.
The works will include replacement of escalators, upgrade of their motors for efficiency, and replacement of control panels and devices.
Updates to fire protection, safety and ventilation systems, drainage pumping stations and passenger information systems will also be involved in the effort.
Kaladze said the works would “significantly improve” operations of the network.
