Thea Akhvlediani, the Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, and representatives of international organisations implementing humanitarian and confidence-building projects in the country’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia, on Monday discussed the efforts in the north-western region of the country.
The Minister hailed the organisations’ role in efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts, before discussing the humanitarian situation in the region, the Ministry said.
The sides discussed ongoing projects and initiatives, as well as future plans, which they said were expected to ease the socio-economic conditions of the conflict-affected population and facilitate a dialogue for peaceful reintegration of the region.
Russia recognised Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions as independent states after its 2008 conflict with Georgia.
Only Venezuela, Nikaragua, Nauru and Syria have joined Moscow's stance so far, amid the calls of the rest of the international community to Russian authorities to withdraw their troops from the Georgian territory.
