Tea Akhvlediani, former deputy health minister, has been appointed Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, replacing Ketevan Tsikhelashvili in the position.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has praised Akhveliani as an ‘experienced diplomat’ who is capable of playing a positive role in the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Akhvlediani said that she will ‘spare no efforts to find result-oriented, optimal ways’ for Georgia to restore trust with the Abkhaz and Ossetian people.

I believe that there are ways to overcome current challenges which respond to the common interests of Abkhaz, Ossetian and Georgian people. I believe that we will find ways,” Akhvlediani said.

She stated that the central Georgian government is open to dialogue, with the involvement of the country's foreign partners and through close cooperation with civil society, to find ways to remove illegal barriers and facilitate the free movement of people.

The two Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali are currently occupied by Russia.
