Georgian Trade Unions Confederation on Saturday announced that with their involvement, an agreement was reached between Georgian Manganese, a major producer and exporter of ferroalloys and manganese ore in the country, and the miners, who had been on strike for more than two weeks after unsuccessful negotiations on a pay rise.

Under the agreement, the employer will pay the miners an inflation-adjusted 5 percent of their salary for their work for the period from January to June and 6.9 percent from July 1, the body noted.

In its statement, the GTUC also said other requests of the miners should be discussed and the questions would be solved accordingly.

The Chiatura mine will resume work on July 1, the body added.
