Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday said the Government would “spare no effort” to keep the issue of peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict on the international agenda.

In his comments at the Parliament, Darchiashvili noted the Government was discussing issues related to the 2008 war with partners in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in close cooperation with partner countries and international organisations and with their support, continues to work in the direction of restoration of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity - the de-occupation and peaceful settlement of the Russia-Georgia conflict, which is a priority issue of our country”, Darchiashvili told the MPs.

“On the backdrop of the extremely acute security environment created in the region as a result of Russia's full-scale war in Ukraine, we spare no effort to keep the topic of Russia's occupation of Georgian territories and the need for a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict on the international agenda”, he continued.

The top Georgian diplomat stressed the foreign office had used all diplomatic and legal instruments to ensure the “mobilisation” of international support.

As a result of our active diplomatic steps, our partners have provided clear public support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for the peaceful settlement of the Russia-Georgia conflict, which was reflected in a number of documents of partner countries and international organisations”, he continued.

Darchiashvili also added Georgia's recent successes in international courts against Russia, in particular the European Court of Human Rights and the International Criminal Court, were also important.

The Geneva International Discussions remain an important tool in the process of peaceful settlement of the Russia-Georgia conflict, which, as you know, is the only platform where we communicate on issues related to both humanitarian and the fulfilment of international obligations undertaken by Russia in relation to Georgia”, the Minister said to lawmakers.
