Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia's Representative to the European Union and the country’s Ambassador to Belgium, on Wednesday said the state was a “democratic country that has a perspective and a clear path for the final accession to the Union of European countries”.
Makharoblishvili made the comment at an event marking Georgia’s selection as the focus country of this year’s Europalia arts festival, with the event set to showcase the country in Brussels in the autumn.
Europe “stands beside” Georgia and Ukraine in their fight against Russian aggression, he stressed in remarks at the occasion.
The diplomat also highlighted the importance of Europalia as the “main cultural festival” of Belgium, adding its programme would be dedicated to the “rich and diverse” history of Georgia, as well as its contemporary art scene.
