Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said Georgia would “definitely” become a full-fledged member of the “European family” while preserving its “culture and traditions [and] national identity” and further strengthening independence.

In his message posted on social media, Mdinaradze responded to the criticism by a part of the domestic opposition on the absence of the European Union flag from the decorations set up in Tbilisi for this year’s Independence Day celebrations, by saying “establishing false narratives will not work”.

Yesterday they tried to sell the Georgian decorations built on the theme of freedom as anti-European. [...] That is, they are trying to include the symbols of the European Union in another harmful and vicious campaign against Georgia”, Mdinaradze said.

“Georgia will definitely become a full-fledged member of the European family with the preservation of Georgian culture and traditions, national identity and further strengthening of independence - and not without this”, the party official’s post said.
