New buses will join the municipal transport fleet in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi this year while socially underprivileged families will receive accommodation, Mayor Kakha Kaladze said in comments on the City Hall’s plans for the year.

Kaladze said on Wednesday his office would purchase the previously announced 18-metre-long buses to add to the public transport fleet in the city, and would also build a bus depot to ensure maintenance for the vehicles.

He also noted city authorities had plans to add 200 new buses to municipal transport routes “over the next few years”.

About 80 homeless families will receive municipal accommodation throughout the year, with Kaladze saying the City Hall wanted to ensure there was “no homeless person [left] in the capital”.

The Mayor also announced socially vulnerable pensioners would again receive ₾500 ($187) vouchers for purchasing prescribed medications, in a social support programme from city authorities.

The City Hall's plans also include demolishing 25 dilapidated residential buildings and providing the families in the blocks with new housing.
