Investment opportunities offered by Georgia are of interest for “many new companies”, Levan Davitashvili, the Economy Minister of Georgia, said on Tuesday as part of the participation of a Georgian Government delegation at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos.

Davitashvili said the delegation’s meetings at the event had discussed the country’s geopolitical role “in light of the recent events”, in reference to alternative logistical and energy routes being sought by states and companies following Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The Minister noted interest from international shipping companies in the “Central Corridor” - the logistical connection between Central Asia, South Caucasus and Europe - was “particularly noteworthy”.

He also noted “principal strategic projects” involving improvement of transport infrastructure, hospitality and other areas where he said Georgia had a “truly outstanding potential” had been reviewed in the meetings with representatives from international companies at the Forum.

In particular, Davitashvili noted the Black Sea submarine cable international project, intended to directly connect the energy system of the South Caucasus with Europe, and current opportunities for investment among the notable areas.

Meetings of the Georgian delegation, led by PM Irakli Garibashvili, have included discussions with Jay Collins, the Citigroup investment banking company Vice Chairman, Niclas Mårtensson, the CEO of the Swedish shipping company Stena Line, Hani Weiss, the CEO of the Dubai-based holding company Majid Al Futtaim and Mansoor Bin Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud, the CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority.
