Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Wednesday announced passengers of the capital city would be able to pay taxi fares using quick response codes starting this month.

Kaladze said the “innovative and fast method” would be approved for use after it was proposed by the Georgian-based fintech company BKN301 Georgia, and added their use would be optional.

Taxi drivers will receive the codes at service centres. The QR codes will be placed on the backs of car seats or other places, customers will scan the QR code with their mobile phones and easily pay the fare, and taxi drivers will instantly receive the money to their bank accounts”, the Mayor explained.
