The Counter-Intelligence Department of Georgia’s State Security Service and the country’s Prosecutor's Office on Monday detained an individual for an attempted illegal sale of radioactive substances.
The Service said the suspect had planned to sell the material in the western city of Poti for $2,000,000.
A radiological examination on the substance removed during the search showed it contained the radioactive substance uranium, from the category of nuclear materials.
The investigation was launched under the criminal code article for illegal handling of radioactive substances, with the arrested individual facing imprisonment for between five and 10 years.
