Grigol Liluashvili, the head of the Georgian State Security Service, and Levan Ioseliani, the country’s newly elected Public Defender, on Thursday discussed cooperation between their offices.
In a meeting at the Security Service, Liluashvili also introduced Ioseliani to the “main directions and priorities” of his agency, the press office of the security body said.
Ioseliani, a former MP of the Citizens opposition party, was elected to the post in March.
The Georgian Parliament on Tuesday supported the candidacy of Levan Ioseliani, an opposition MP from the Citizens party, for the position of the Public Defender of Georgia, in a move that concluded a delayed period of candidate selection and vote for the position.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday praised Levan Ioseliani, an opposition MP from the Citizens party, as a “worthy” nominee to become the country’s new Public Defender.
Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the Georgian State Security Service, on Thursday confirmed that a citizen of the United States had been denied entry into Georgia due to his alleged involvement in the “training of destructive groups” during the last month's protests against the bill on transparency of foreign influence, with the clashes of demonstrators with law enforcement outside the Parliament building in Tbilisi.
The current situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories and near the occupation line, as well as security challenges in the country and “borderisation” activities on shifting the occupation line, was discussed on Wednesday by Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the Georgian State Security Service and Toivo Klaar, the European Union's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in the country.
