Romanian Ambassador highlights Georgia’s “progress” in gaining EU candidate status

Răzvan Rotundu, the Romanian Ambassador to Georgia, on Tuesday said the country had made progress in its efforts to receive the European Union membership candidate status, while adding issues remained to be resolved.
In his remarks, Rotundu noted the granting of the candidate status was ultimately up to the 27 member states of the bloc.
“The granting of the status is a collective decision that will be taken by the 27 member states after seeing the Commission's report on the implementation of the 12 recommendations”, Rotundu said.
At the moment, we are in dialogue with representatives of the Georgian public. We see progress, we also see that there are a number of issues to be resolved, this is a work in progress at the moment”, he concluded.
Georgia’s cooperation with North Macedonia during the latter’s Chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Co-Operation in Europe, and the progress achieved by the former on the path of its European integration were discussed on Monday between foreign ministers Ilia Darchiashvili and Bujar Osmani.
The European Union “strongly supports” the Black Sea submarine cable project, a new transmission route to deliver green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe, and hopes the South Caucasus will become a “very important” source of energy for Europe, Paweł Herczyński, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, said on Thursday.
Pawel Herczynski, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, on Tuesday said he hoped Georgia would become a member of the bloc, noting the outcome would “bring enormous benefits to the country”.
Obtaining the European Union membership candidate status for Georgia is a goal that has “no alternative” for the country, President Salome Zourabichvili said on Monday in a press briefing in Vilnius with her Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nausėda.
Pawel Herczynski, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, on Monday said the bloc supported reforms in Georgia, including in the judiciary system of the country.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, together with the delegation, will visit Romania from Sunday to Wednesday and is set to address the members of the Senate of Romania at the plenary session.
