Ruling party head, EU Ambassador review implementation of EU candidate status conditions

The process of the implementation of the European Union conditions for granting Georgia its membership candidate status was discussed on Monday in a meeting between Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, and Pawel Herczynski, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia.
The officials also reviewed the “current political situation” in the country, the Georgian Dream Press Office said.
The European Council granted Georgia a European perspective last year, with the country’s authorities given priorities to address for receiving a membership candidate status of the bloc in 2023.
The cooperation between Georgia and Germany, the progress on the European integration path and the implementation of the EU conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday said the country enjoyed “full support” and “expressed willingness” of its partners to help “our country” to achieve “further success” in the European and Euro-Atlantic integration process and “peacefully” overcome the existing challenges.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Friday said the country’s people would not understand “another refusal” from the European Union to grant Georgia its membership candidate status later this year.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday said the European Council’s June decision on granting Georgia a European perspective instead of the European Union membership candidate status had been “political” and “not based on merit”, with the Government head adding his team nevertheless believed the country would receive the latter “very soon”.
Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday told a conference of the party in the country’s west Georgia needed “development, stability and peace”, adding “no matter how much pressure there is, we will not allow turmoil in the country”.
