Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Romeo Mikautadze on Saturday said the Black Sea submarine cable international project, initiated by Georgia, was an “object of international interest”.

In his interview for Imedi TV, Mikautadze noted the dates, cost and the way of the installation of the cable would be known this year and highlighted that the 1,200 km long cable would be the “longest in the world”. It has been an “object of interest” in the South Caucasus region and will be a “direct and important” connection with the energy market of the European Union countries, he stressed.

The energy project - signed in December 2022 between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary and Romania - involves the construction of a high-voltage underwater transmission grid to connect the power transmission lines and systems of the four countries and allow the export of green energy to Europe.
