Ruling party head: Georgian Dream “guarantor” of “avoiding second front” of Ukraine war in Georgia

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said the Government of the ruling Georgian Dream party was the “guarantor” against the scenario of the “second front” of the war in Ukraine being opened in Georgia.
“Today it is the Georgian Dream Government that guarantees that the scenario of the second front will not be implemented in Georgia, which would bring Russian military-political intervention to our country and severe consequences”, Kobakhidze noted.
We are responsible for ensuring that Georgia maintains peace and continues rapid economic growth to ensure a truly European future for our country”, the GD official also said.
Kobakhidze stressed the country would continue its European integration process “with dignity”, in comments following the ruling party’s withdrawal of a controversial bill that called for registration of non-commercial legal entities and media outlets in the country as “agents of foreign influence” if they derived more than 20 percent of their funding from abroad, after public protests against the draft law.
We deeply believe that membership of the European Union is not possible at the expense of giving up dignity and independence - with a slavish attitude and standing on one foot - but only by preserving dignity and independence”, the party Chair said.
Irakli Zarkua, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday highlighted the need for “peaceful development” and European integration for the country.
Kakha Kaladze, the Tbilisi Mayor and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said “any attempts by the radical wing” of the domestic opposition to replace the current authorities “through chaos and revolution” were “doomed to fail”.
Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Committee on Human Rights, on Monday said “under no circumstances could Georgia allow itself to open a second front” of the ongoing war in Ukraine in the country.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Sunday criticized Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy for responding to a “destructive rally” in Tbilisi this week related to the controversial transparency bill on foreign influence.
Georgian Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia on Thursday told the country’s Parliament the “responsibility” of the Government to “maintain peace [and] prevent a difficult political, social and economic situation” in the country had gained a further significance since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday claimed the idea of a “second front” in the country amid the ongoing war in Ukraine was coming from the Ukrainian high ranking officials who had said that “their interest was to open a second front in Georgia and Moldova” amid the war in their country.
