Finance Minister, French Ambassador discuss ongoing regional, governance development programmes

Ongoing programmes in the areas of regional and urban development, vocational education and governance with the support of the French Development Agency (AFD) were discussed at the meeting between Lasha Khutsishvili, the Georgian Finance Minister, and Diego Colas, the French Ambassador to Georgia, on Wednesday. 

Agriculture and energy development of the country and ongoing programmes in the fields were also in the focus of the meeting, with the French Ambassador expressing readiness to continue “active cooperation” with Georgia supporting the economic and structural reforms in the country, the Finance Ministry said.

The impact of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine on the economic development of the world, on the Black Sea region and on Georgia were also reviewed. 

The Georgian Minister noted the country was “firmly pursuing” its course of European integration, as well as economic and structural reforms aimed at strengthening the country’s economy and increasing resilience to shocks.

AFD has provided support to Georgia since 2012, with a total of €250.7 million in financial commitments for projects for urban and rural development, infrastructure, governance and renewable energy. The Agency opened its office in Tbilisi in 2017.
