In its official statement, the Ministry said it “reaffirms support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” The foreign office also said it considered it important to continue negotiations for a peaceful settlement of the Abkhazia issue “in compliance with the norms and principles of international law.”
The Georgian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday the so-called parliamentary elections in Abkhazia were a “futile attempt to legitimise the illegal occupation” of the country’s territories, and called on Russia to withdraw its 2008 recognition of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) as independent states.
