Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday said his Government was “doing its best” to help develop the business sector in the country, citing 125,000 companies registered over the last two years as an example of his team’s pro-business stance.

In his 2022 summary on the Government’s work, Garibashvili noted 229,000 new jobs in the country had been created thanks to the private sector.

[O]ur Government is as pro-business as possible, and we help and do our best to develop business. Over the past two years, 125,000 companies have been registered in the country [...] This shows how the private sector and business in general are active”, he noted.

“It is no coincidence that these 229,000 new jobs [...] have been created thanks to business, and of course, our contribution to this is significant”, Garibashvili said.

The head of the Government also highlighted the Produce in Georgia state programme for supporting entrepreneurship, pointing out that over 300 enterprises had been given the opportunity to participate in the improved co-financing programme of the platform.

Additionally, 60 economic activities with great export potential have been selected. This year, 330 companies started or expanded their activities, and since the beginning of this programme in 2014, more than 1,500 projects have been funded, with a total of ₾ 2.5 billion invested”, Garibashvili added, pointing out 35,000 new jobs created through the funding of the programmes.

Over 1,400 applicants have been financed in the framework of the Government’s micro-grants programme, with more than 8,200 total projects supported and 21,000 new jobs created, he also highlighted.

Garibashvili also mentioned the mortgage loan subsidy programme, explaining the Government aimed to use it for helping newly created families and those with newborn children.

We managed to support more than 4,000 families. This year, in total, within the framework of the programme, more than 11,000 families bought houses with the overall worth of over ₾1 billion. This is very important support, and once again I would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of this programme”, he said.
