Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday said all military bases across the country had been renovated “according to international standards” throughout the past year, in his comments summarising the Government’s work in 2022.
The PM also highlighted the ongoing ₾70 million ($25.93 mln) project on the NATO-standard Mukhrovani base in eastern Georgia’s Kakheti region, as part of remarks on the defence infrastructure.
He also pointed out the Government’s work on launching a reform of the mandatory military service system, and stressed the importance of strengthening the armed forces.
Those serving in the armed forces will have an opportunity to choose six-, eight- or 11-month intensive combat military and theoretical exercises within the programmes of their choice, he said.
In other comments on Government work in the defence sector, he noted both anti-tank and air defence systems of the armed forces were being upgraded, with the Government being “actively involved” in renovation and modernisation of the latter branch.
The PM also mentioned the ongoing work for launching domestic production of drones in cooperation with Poland.
