The Association Committee on Trade Issues, created within the 2014-signed Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement between Georgia and the European Union, this week discussed the country’s implementation of its obligations under the deal in Brussels.

Georgia’s Ministry of Economy on Friday said the meeting, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, had also discussed latest trade dynamics between the sides, as well as Georgia's progress in the implementation of the DCFTA in public procurement, competition, sanitary and phytosanitary areas, technical barriers to trade, customs and trade facilitation.

The Ministry said the European Commission had welcomed the fact of the EU remaining Georgia's “number one trading partner”, accounting for almost a quarter of the country's foreign trade.

It also noted the meeting had praised reforms carried out by the Georgian Government in DCFTA implementation, both in legislative convergence and institutional development.
