Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and members of the Government's Economic Council met on Saturday to review the indicators of foreign direct investments in the country, which totalled $745.3 million in the third quarter of 2022, doubling from the adjusted data of Q3 2021.

The Council discussed the ongoing and planned large infrastructural projects in Georgia, including the development of ports, airports and logistics infrastructure, as well as current and planned energy projects in the country, which include the construction of thermal power plants equipped with high-efficiency and environmental protection technology to increase the country’s energy independence, the Government Administration said.

Special attention was paid to the ongoing processes in tourism, including the readiness of the appropriate infrastructure for the winter tourist season, with Garibashvili briefing the Council members on the new infrastructure projects planned for the winter resorts and noted a new ropeway would be built in the country’s northern Gudauri ski resort that would serve 1,800 passengers per hour and reach the length of 2,800 metres on slopes of the location. He also noted the installation of snowmaking machines was also planned on two tracks in the resort to ensure a “more comfortable environment” for holidaymakers.

The discussion also touched on the ongoing process of citrus harvest in the western Adjara region and it was noted that this year’s harvest was expected to hit about 45,000 tonnes, adding that more than 20 citrus receiving-processing enterprises would receive export tangerines and the citrus cannery in Kobuleti would receive an unlimited amount of non-standard tangerines.

As of today, up to 45,000 tonnes of standard tangerines have been exported and 200 tonnes of non-standard citrus have been received and processed.
