Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday met Ilia II, the Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia’s Orthodox Church, to review the initial version of the project of launching a Georgian cultural centre on the Jordan River.
Garibashvili said the Patriarch “shared his thoughts” around the project in the discussion, adding the work for the venue plan was “actively underway”.
He added “relevant procedures” for agreeing the project would begin soon and be followed by actual construction works after approval of permits.
The development follows the handing over of a plot of land near the river by Jordanian authorities to Georgia in May, for the purpose of the launch of the cultural centre, with the move called “very generous” and a “great present and joy” for the country by the Georgian PM.
