A platoon of the National Guard of Georgia has returned from its six-month deployment in the European Union Training Mission in the Central African Republic, the Georgian defence ministry said on Wednesday.

Brigadier General Roman Jokhadze and members of the National Guard welcomed the servicemembers on their arrival at the Tbilisi international airport late on Tuesday.

Under the command of Captain Amiran Bichashvili, the platoon provided convoys and escorts, as well as base security and motorised patrolling at the Mpoko military base in Bangui, the capital of the Republic, and was replaced by another Georgian unit in the mission.

The Georgian military contingent has been participating in the EU's new military training mission in the Central African Republic since 2017.
