Black Sea city of Batumi wins world's leading emerging tourism destination at World Travel Awards

The Black Sea city of Batumi on Saturday won the award of the world’s leading emerging tourism destination 2022 at the 29th World Travel Awards, in Oman’s capital of Muscat.

The Adjara tourism department said that the city had won the award among tourist destinations such as France, Japan, Colombia and Mexico, as well as Laos, Uruguay, Bulgaria and Northern Ireland.

Last month, the World Travel Awards named Batumi as Europe’s leading emerging tourism destination at the award ceremony in Mallorca, with Tornike Rijvadze, the chairman of the autonomous republic of Adjara, announcing that Batumi was officially named as a host city of the 2023 awards event.

The event has been held since 1993, with hundreds of nominations and thousands of nominees that are divided into different categories according to continents and countries, among them are leading hotels, travel agencies, tourist attractions, destinations, tour operators, as well as sea, road, air transport companies, etc.
