Maka Botchorishvili, the chair of the Georgian parliament's European Union integration committee, on Friday said it was “important” to know the processes and attitudes in the European Union towards the prospects of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine joining the bloc.

Botchorishvili, who is on a visit to Prague with a parliamentary delegation, made the remark in comments on meetings held with officials in capitals of EU member states with the goal of providing Georgia’s partners with information on the implementation of the EU conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status.

The Czech Republic is holding the EU presidency until the end of the year, and intensive consultations with Czech counterparts are important. We should provide information to our partners on how Georgia is fulfilling the EU conditions, and the EU member states should have a complete picture of the political processes taking place in the country, which would give them the opportunity to make objective assessments”, the parliament official.

“We are talking to our counterparts in the Czech parliament [and] representatives of the executive power about the progress achieved by Georgia. It is also important for us to know what processes are taking place in the European Union and what is the attitude towards Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine when it comes to the prospects of joining the European Union”, she noted.

On June 24, the European Council granted the membership candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, and said it would be ready to grant the same status to Georgia once the outstanding priorities outlined by the European Commission would be addressed by the Georgian government.
