David Narmania, the head of the Georgian national energy and water supply regulatory commission, on Friday said the commission was going to set new tariffs for natural gas in December, adding "no increase” was expected in the tariff.

The commission head explained electricity tariffs had been set in August and would remain unchanged this autumn and winter, with the gas tariff also expected to be kept at its current figure “under the current exchange rate”.

[C]onsumption of both electricity and natural gas is increasing. There are often questions from customers about why they are getting increased bills - this is usually due to increased consumption. The tariffs remain unchanged”, he added.

The energy regulator head also presented the latest statistics of electricity and the natural gas consumption in the country, noting electricity consumption in the household sector had increased by 13.6 percent in the winter months compared to the summer over the past two years, while consumption of natural gas per capita had increased by five times.

He added consumption increase was mainly tied to increases in residential areas, adding tariffs had remained unchanged in the time period.
