Georgian parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday said South Korea supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and stressed the importance of expressing it through the “active support” of the United Nations resolutions on Georgian internally displaced persons.

Papuashvili, at his working visit to South Korea with a parliamentary delegation, said Georgia had a “great experience” of cooperation and assistance from the South Korean side and noted he had discussed parliamentary cooperation and strengthening of relations between the countries in the meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Kim Jin-pyo.

The desire to conclude a free trade agreement between Georgia and South Korea as soon as possible was expressed, which will help strengthen trade relations. Like Georgia, South Korea geopolitically has the function of a logistics hub [...] and it is important for us to share experience in the logistics of international shipments", the parliament speaker said.

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, within the Georgian delegation, said South Korea had made its contribution to the improvement of electronic technologies in the Georgian parliament and noted the delegation had been given a “promise” that the South Korean side would continue its contribution.

Mdinaradze emphasised that the delegation and South Korean parliament speaker had discussed supporting Georgia’s resolutions at the UN and noted there was agreement on “similar issues”, adding the trade relations between the two countries, as well as the investment environment in Georgia, have been the topics of discussions.
