British Ambassador to Georgia Mark Clayton on Wednesday called on all political stakeholders in Georgia to work together on the implementation of the European Union conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status.

In his remarks over the matter, Clayton noted his country was no longer a member of the EU and therefore had no “direct” involvement in the process of working on conditions for joining the bloc.

However, he stressed the United Kingdom government supported Georgia’s aspirations to join the EU and NATO.

There is a very basic democratic point behind that which is that Georgian people say they want to join the EU and the NATO and every main political party says they also support that membership, so in that spirit, our position is that we encourage all the political parties to work together to implement those 12 requirements”, Clayton told the local media.
