Russian-controlled occupation forces on Wednesday illegally arrested a Georgian citizen on territory adjacent to the country’s occupied north-western Abkhazia region, Georgia’s state security service said.
The agency said it had informed the European Union monitoring mission and co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions over the incident.
On Tuesday the occupation forces also illegally detained three Georgian citizens for “illegally crossing the border” in the central Georgian village of Mejvriskhevi, near the administrative line separating the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region from the rest of the country.
The security body said Georgian authorities were using “all tools at their disposal” to ensure release of all illegally detained citizens from both occupied regions.
The arrests are the latest in a series of incidents where Georgian nationals are detained along the occupation lines by the de facto authorities.
