Deputy foreign minister notes diaspora involvement in economic development at sustainable economic recovery forum

Georgian capital Tbilisi has hosted the local economic development forum Sustainable Economic Recovery, with deputy minister of foreign affairs Vladimir Konstantinidi addressing the event on the importance of the involvement of Georgian diaspora in the country's economic development.
The ministry on Tuesday cited Konstantinidi in his remarks drawing the attention of participants to the role of the Georgian diaspora in the process of building the country as a “Western state”.
The official said the country’s diaspora was more involved in domestic economic development thanks to the number of business forums and economic activities held annually by the ministry in cooperation with international partner organisations.
In particular, Konstantinidi noted events introducing the diaspora to the local investment environment and opportunities for doing business in the country, adding “we [see] a more active diaspora and tangible investment initiatives from them”.
Within the framework of the global conference, the Global Conference for Diaspora Networks in Science, a session titled Georgian Diaspora and Science Across Borders, was held on Thursday.
Officials and professionals in Tbilisi discussed the importance of diaspora in promoting Georgian culture abroad in a forum dedicated to cultural diplomacy, digital diaspora and more on Saturday, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The Government will remove “all artificial barriers” to enable representatives of the Georgian diaspora to easily receive passports, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Friday at a forum dedicated to Diaspora Day.
Georgian Prime Minister and President, as well as the Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II have emphasised the role of the Georgian diaspora in the maintenance of the EU-Georgia visa free deal, “one of the biggest achievements of the country,” at the diaspora forum held in Tbilisi earlier today.
Select members of the Georgian diaspora abroad were on Friday awarded for promoting the country’s culture abroad and contributing to public diplomacy and economic development.
