The head of Georgia’s special state protection service will participate in the work of the country’s national security council as a permanent member.

Anzor Chubinidze, the head of the service, introduced the relevant bill, prepared at the Georgian government's initiative, to the parliament’s defence and security committee on Monday, with the latter supporting the initiative.

Chubinidze noted the change was required as the service was “actively involved” in the implementation of “special, operational and other preventive measures” that “serve to detect and prevent threats against the state”.

He stressed his service carried out activities that “belong to the field of national security, as defined by the law on the rules of planning and coordination of national security policy”.
