The process of the implementation of the European Union conditions for granting Georgia the membership candidate status was discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Pawel Herczynski, the European Union ambassador to Georgia.
The officials also reviewed the opinions and expectations in the EU regarding Georgia's progress in the process, the parliament press office said, with Papuashvili noting the parliament was expected to complete the work on the recommendations according to the plan.
The officials also discussed other issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, emphasising the importance of the high-level visit of the European Commission to Georgia in the near future.
Herczynski noted the EU delegation to Georgia would continue to support the country in the process of implementing the bloc’s conditions.
On June 24, the European Council granted the membership candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, and said it would be ready to grant the same status to Georgia once the outstanding priorities outlined by the European Commission are addressed by the Georgian government.
