Deepening the existing relations between Georgia and South Africa, including at the parliamentary level, was discussed on Friday in a meeting between Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Georgian parliament's foreign affairs committee chair, and Alvin Botes, South African deputy minister of international relations and cooperation.

The officials reviewed regional security matters, Russia's ongoing aggression in Ukraine and its impact on the two countries as well as global security, the parliament press office said.

Samkharadze informed Botes about the “difficult situation” in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia and the peace policy of the Georgian government in relation to the occupied territories.

Botes reiterated his country's support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and pledged the approach would not be subject to revision.
