Giorgi Vashadze, the head of the Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party, on Thursday announced an agreement on a joint action plan with Girchi - More Freedom and Droa opposition parties as their bid to “act for Georgia’s European Union membership candidate status”.

While dismissing media reports over a merger of the parties, Vashadze said joint efforts from “pro-European” parties was “crucial”, and noted other opposition groups supporting the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration could join the deal.

The opposition politician urged colleagues to “put aside narrow party goals” and act “based on state interests” in a bid to change the “pro-Russian” authorities in the country.

Vashadze also claimed the action plan, which he said “involves certain moves both inside and outside the country”, was aiming to “save Georgia and its European future”.
